Soosatee Ramnarain, age 86, of Orlando, FL, passed away Thursday, December 25th, 2014. Soosatee was born in Berbice, Guyana, the daughter of the late Soobagia (Singh) and Pankas Beer. She was employed as a seamstress.
 

Soosatee leaves to cherish her memory, children Khemwattee Persaud - Seeta, Damodar Ramnarine - Bato, Dropatti Ramnarine - Lovin, Yogendra Ramnarine - Brow, Pramwattee Hashim - Mala, Shanty Singh - Shanty; grandchildren Bish, Tony, Barbara, Nadia, Shamo, Chetram, Avin, Jessica, Tabo, Diane, Pamela, Andre, Lisi, Venisa (Vanessa), Trivanne, Sasha, Baby, Stephen, Richard, Bubu; and 18 great-grandchildren.
 

Traditional Hindu services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm; Monday, December 29, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm and Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 8:00 until 11:00 am followed by cremation at Westside Crematory in Winter Garden.

Maria Hernandez

Maria Hernandez, age 63 of Orlando, passed away Saturday, December 20th, at her residence. Maria was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Ana (Estrada) and the late Jose Delgado-Rivera. She was employed as a hostess for the International House of Pancakes.
 

Maria leaves to cherish her memory along with her mother Ana Estrada; husband Samuel Hernandez; sons Samuel Hernandez, Jr. (Kathleen Sikes), Roberto Hernandez; daughter-in-law Rachel Hernandez; sister Sonia Delgado all of Orlando and several nieces, nephews and friends.
 

The family will be receiving friends at Dobbs Funeral Home Chapel, Orlando, FL, from 3:00 - 6:00 pm on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2014.

Colonel John Dixon

John (Jack) Dixon was born in Whitehaven, UK on 4 May 1917.  His parent’s were Mary and Joseph Dixon.  John was the oldest of four brothers and sisters.  The other siblings were Josephine, Chuck, Jim, and Catherine.  Joseph Dixon worked in the coal mines which was a dirty and very risky job.  To better themselves, the family moved from England to the Pittsburgh, PA, USA area when John was 7.  They came over on a boat.

 Joseph, John’s father, went to work at Mesta Machine Company, a steel mill that made steel mills.  The mill was located in Homestead, PA, and the family lived in Homestead, also.  Joseph ultimately became a crane operator.  John and both his brothers, Chuck and Jim, also went to work at Mesta when they were old enough.  John became an electrician’s apprentice, and later an electrician. 

John belonged to the Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout.  He stayed active in the scouts for many years.  He was Scout Master of Homestead Troop No. 11 for over 30 years.

John enlisted in the Army at the beginning of World War II.  After a short stint with the Army Air Corps, he ended up in the 11^th Armor Division.  He became an officer and a tank commander and reached the rank of Captain during the war.  He fought with General George Patton in the Battle of the Bulge.  He tells stories of capturing a brewery in somewhere in Germany and the whole battalion getting so drunk they could not fight until after they sobered up.  He helped to liberate a Nazi concentration camp and at the end of the war he helped save the now famous Lipizzaner Stallions.  During the war he received two Purple Hearts and two Silver Stars.

 After the war he married Elsie B. Smith, and they had a son, John (Jack) Dixon, Jr. in 1948.  They bought a house in Dravosburg, PA and shortly after that, the Korean War broke out, and he was recalled.  The family moved to Ft. Knox, KY, where he taught tank maintenance to the troops.  While there, he taught General Patton’s son and President Eisenhower’s son.

 After the Korean War ended they returned to the Pittsburgh, PA area to their house in Dravosburg.   John returned to his career as an electrician at Mesta Machine Company.  Many years later he became an electrical shop foreman.  He worked at Mesta for 42 years until he retired.  During this time, young Jack graduated from high school, then college, and married Margo Miller in March of 1971.  Jack and Margo moved to Virginia where Jack had several jobs with the federal government.  John also remained in the Army reserves where he rose to the rank of Colonel.  He retired from the Army after serving for 34 years.  He enjoys being called “The Colonel”.  That rank was quite an achievement for an enlisted man to make especially without a college degree.

After John’s retirement from both Mesta and the Army, he an Elsie decided to do some traveling.  While they often took commercial flights, his Army service entitled him fly anywhere in the world space-available on military aircraft.  Elsie could travel anywhere outside the continental United States.  While there were some hassles and long waits associated with this mode of travel, it afforded a great opportunity to visit many more places than they would have been able to afford otherwise.  They traveled to Europe and Scandinavia several times, Hawaii and Las Vegas often, the UK where they visited relatives, and Japan.  While in Germany and Austria they visited a number of places that the Colonel had been during the war.

One thing the Colonel enjoyed greatly was gambling.  He typically played Blackjack or Craps and got to be fairly good at making some money at it.  Because of the space-available flights, he often took quick trips to Las Vegas to gamble.  He also took numerous trips to England to visit relatives, but often ended up in Blackpool where he could gamble.

During this period of time Jack and Margo moved to Orlando, Florida in 1985.   After exploring a number of areas of the county, including San Diego and Phoenix, John and Elsie sold the Dravosburg house that they had lived in since 1948 and moved to Hernando, Florida in the early 1990’s.  They weren’t traveling as much by then, but still occasionally going to Las Vegas to gamble.  Now, they could go to “The Boat” to gamble.  They went to the west coast of Florida to catch the gambling boat on a fairly regular basis.  While Elsie went along, she only played the slot machines.  John continued with his tradition of winning at the blackjack and craps tables.

Elsie passed away suddenly from heart failure on 27 August 1999 after being married for 52 years.  John stayed in the large house they had built in Hernando for a couple more years.  About a year after Elsie’s passing, he contracted lymphoma.  He went through a surgery to remove a large growth and several months of chemotherapy.  He did it mostly on his own, with Jack and Margo visiting whenever possible; it was a one and a half hour trip each way, so it was difficult to be together often.  About a year after he recovered from that Jack and Margo started to encourage him to sell the house and move closer to them.  The house and yard were large and required quite a bit of upkeep and he was in his mid-80s and less capable to doing a lot of the work.  Also, because of the distance involved, if he needed any support it was hard for Jack and Margo to provide it.  So, he moved into one of Jack and Margo’s rental condos and sold the house in 2001 where he has been ever since, and where he passed away peacefully on 19 December 2014 after a long, productive life of 97 years.

 

The family will be receiving friends on at Dobbs Funeral on Sunday, December 21, 2014 from 1:00 until 2:00 pm.  The funeral service will follow visitation at 2:00 pm.  Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery with full military honors on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 12:30 pm.

Michelle L. Donnelly

Michelle Donnelly, age 43 passed away December 16, 2014 as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle as a pedestrian. Michelle was born in Boston, MA on June 23, 1971 and resided in Orlando for the past 22 years. She was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School in Easton, MA and attended Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island and Dean College. Michelle was a free spirit and enjoyed many activities. She will be sadly missed by her sons Brendan Donnelly and Ryan Donnelly, father Robert, mother Diane, sister Jennifer Clapp, brother Jason, nieces Madison and Rachel. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Calling hours for Michelle will be 2pm until 5pm Saturday 12/20 at Dobbs Funeral Home, 430 N. Kirkman Road, Orlando 32811. Catholic prayer service at 5pm.  Interment will be at  Dr. Phillips Cemetery on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 11:00 am.

 

Joshua Alexander Mea

Joshua Alexander Mea passed away on November 21, 2014.  Born in Orlando, Florida he was the son of Alexander and Loneice (Sands) Mea both of Kissimmee, Florida.  Private services will be held for Joshua at a later date.

Eileen Imelda Van Sluytman

Eileen Imelda Van Sluytman, age 87, of Casselberry, FL passed away Wednesday, December 10th, 2014 at her residence. Eileen was born in Pomeroon, Guyana,  the daughter of the late Marcelina (Gomes)  and Alfred  Pearce Van Sluytman.  She was a homemaker and a member of First Pentecostal Church  in Longwood.

 

Eileen leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Cheryl Van Sluytman of Guyana, Avril Da Costa of Orlando, Mignon Da Costa of Longwood;  sister Beryl Adams of Guyana; 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

 

The family will be receiving friends at Dobbs funeral Home on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.  The Funeral Service we be held at First Pentecostal Church, Longwood, FL at  12:00 pm on Wednesday, December 17th, 2014 with Pastor Ryan Loyd officiating.   Interment will follow the service at  Longwood Memorial Gardens Longwood, FL.

Maria Elena Barbich

Maria Elena Barbich, age 73 of Orlando, FL passed away Sunday, November 23rd, 2014 at Winter Park Care & Rehabilitation Center.   Maria was born in Lima, Peru,  the daughter of the late Olifia Berry (Branch)  and Hugo Barbich.

 

She was a homemaker and leaves to cherish her memory daughter Janire Rodriguez, four sons Jimmy Rodriguez,   Henry Rodriguez,  Andreas Rodriguez all of Orlando; Ernesto Rodriguez of New Jersey; 9 sisters, 6 brothers and 6 grandchildren.

Augustus Peter Williams

Augustus Peter Williams, age 69, of Orlando, FL passed away Friday, November 28th, 2014 at Health Central, in Ocoee.   Augustus was born in St. Vincent, Virgin Islands the son of the late Elaine Williams.

He is predeceased by his mother: Elaine Williams and leaves to cherish his memory, Life Companion: Mattie Thomas; Brother: Bryon William; Children, Kelvin Williams Welcome (Vanessa), Orlan Williams Welcome (Michael),  Richard Thomas, Robert Thomas,  Arthur Howard (Maria); Grand Children: Kiman Welcome, Kip Welcome (Teshana), Kashawn Welcome, Robin Thomas, Brittney Simon, Lutes Simon (Tavia), Whitney Thomas, Junior Rodney (Kalana), Sharazoid Rodney, Brother in Laws: Joe Jr. Denson (Linda) Lonnie Nash(Vicky),Alfred Jackson, Jimmie Jackson Jr.; Sister in Laws: Dorothy Jones, Ann Bright (James),  Virgie Howard (Norman), Jessie Denson (Randolph), Mary Jackson, Gwendolyn Jackson (Dean); 12 Great grand children; A Host of nephews, nieces and cousins.

Cloraine Francois

Cloraine Francois, age 66, of Orlando, FL, passed away Saturday, December 6th, 2014 at Florida Hospital Orlando.  Cloraine was born in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti,  the daughter of the late Antonine (Cirius)  and Prevoir  Voltaire.  She moved to Central Florida from Haiti in 1985 and was employed as a theme park laundry attendant.

 

Cloraine leaves to cherish her memory, husband Rafael Francois of Orlando; two daughters Roselaure Francois of Miami, Veronica Day of Haines City; five sons Rosario Francois, Allen Francois, Ricardo Francois all of Orlando; Miciuis Francois of Boston; Vladimyr Francois of Orlando;  three sisters, Gislaine Losse of France,  Maryse Kola of Canada,  Joycelyn Voltaire of Haiti; two brothers, Daniel Voltaire of Miami, Mario Voltaire, of France; and 15 grandchildren

 

The family will be receiving friends at Dobbs Funeral Home on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm and the funeral service will be held at Christ Sanctified Church located at 5717 N. Pine Hills Road, Orlando on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 10:00 am.  Interment will be at Winter Garden Cemetery following the service.

Charles G. Buck

Charles G. Buck, age 71 of  Orlando,  passed away Sunday, December 7th, 2014 at his residence.  Charles was born in Newburgh, NY, the son of the late Evelyn (LaValley)  and George  Buck.  He served and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a TSGT/E6 Aircraft Mechanic and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Apopka and member of Knights of Columbus 5150.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory wife Carol  (Lewton) Buck of Orlando; Elizabeth Roberts of Cheyenne, WY; sister Carol Wyatt of Cumming, GA; 2 grandchildren Zachary Colin Roberts and Kaitlyn McKenzie Roberts both of Wyoming. 

 

The family will be receiving friends at Dobbs Funeral Home from 6 until 8 pm on Thursday, December 11th, 2014.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 834 S. Orange Blossom Trail, Apopka, FL, at 11:00 am on Friday, December 12th, 2014.  Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.

Kevin Michael Dean

Kevin Michael Dean, age 38, of Casselberry, Florida passed away Thursday, December  3rd, 2014 at his residence.  Kevin was born in Montgomery, Alabama the son of Carol (Dean) and the late Robert J. Dean.  He was employed in residential construction.

 

Kevin leaves to cherish his memory mother Carol Dean of Ocoee;  daughter, Autumn Nagle and son Tristen Lail both of South Carolina;  two sisters, Tracy Aguayo of Ocoee,  Teresa Lynn Hasey of Greenville, TN; and brother Robert Allen Dean, of Orlando.

 

A memorial service will be held at Dobbs Funeral Home on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 6:30 pm with Pastor Thomas Hensley officiating.
 

Lali Hosein

Lali Hosein, age 59 of Orlando,  passed away Sunday, November 30th, at Orlando Regional Medical Center.   Lali was born in Trinidad, the late Basmatia (Jahwahir)  and Bhagwandeen  Ramdial.  She was employed in Finance as a Bank Attendant.

 

Lali leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Nalesha Hosein and son Aleem (Girlie) Hosein both of Trinidad; and 3 grandchildren.  Traditional Hindu Service will be held at Dobbs Funeral Home Chapel, from  9 - 11 am on Thursday, December 4th,  with Pandit Jeet officiating.
