George E. Pindar and Violet Katie
DIllon were married on December 29th, 1962. They lived in Meadowbrook Gardens,
Georgetown, before moving to the USA and spent many years together living in
Brooklyn, NY.
Dorcus believed in faith and
community. She was an ardent worker who had a great love for God and was a
devout member of St. Augustine’s Anglican Church
in Friendship, Guyana. She also held regular bible study meetings at her
home and gave many hours of service to charitable organizations such as the
Mother’s Union which supported family life and the Women’s Institute, where she
taught different skills to women such as craft, cooking, baking, knitting and
crochet. She also attended the Senior Citizens' Club
in New York and Florida.
She was a caterer in her community
for many years and was often called upon to make cakes for weddings and
specials occasions. She taught catering classes for her community. But most
importantly, “Auntie Katie” was considered a mother to all and cared
deeply for everyone she knew, whether you were her family, friend, neighbor or
a member of the community. She was always willing to help out someone in need. Everybody’s child was her child.
Dorcas was a people's
person with a friendly personality who enjoyed a
very social life and loved to laugh. Her house was always filled with
family, friends and laughter. Friends who visited her house were treated as
family. She was very selfless and always had time for others. She always had a
good word of advice to share. She was often surrounded by
her family especially her nieces & nephews. There was never a dull
moment when she was around. Her surviving family members, daughter Patricia Canterbury; foster
son Linden Fung; grandsons Mark, Jason and Andrew Cyrus; great granddaughter
Cara Cyrus and many nieces, nephews and sorrowing friends.
We will all miss her.
May her soul rest
in peace and rise in glory.
