Scott Woodruff

Scott Woodruff was born September 13,1971 and passed away December 15, 2021.  He was a kind loving man. He loved his family and friends with all his heart and was a firm believer that "family helped family".

Scott worked at Sea World Orlando for more than 20 years. He loved sharing his park tickets and showing friends around the park.  Scott also loved to fish it didn’t matter if it was in a small pond or out on the ocean.

Scott and I reconnected in 2004. Our families have known each other since Scott was 3 and I was 5. I never expected to meet such a loving caring compassionate faithful man, but I am thankful I did and it was Scott.

Scott had several medical conditions, when we first reconnected he told me of his rheumatoid arthritis and how it he was in pain all the time. Even though he was in pain everyday it never stopped Scott from getting up and going to work everyday. In 2018 Scott had a massive heart attack. This changed our lives as we knew it.

We were married in the hospital and I was by his side all the way. Scott hated being in the hospital because it was never a quick stay.. but he found a way to laugh and make others laugh as well and it usually involved scaring a nurse or even a Dr. This was something he continued at home with the nurses as well. It was what he loved to do most.

Scott has gone on to a better place where he no longer suffers from his arthritis, heart condition or infections. Although he left us way too soon, we have a life time of memories to share.

Dear Mom,

Thank you, Mom! Thank you for loving me. Thank you for all those words of     wisdom   that  are  resonating in my ear and providing solace during this trying time.

You prepared me for life and for your death. You said that when God called you that you would answer, and you did. You told me that you loved me, that you would regret leaving me, but your higher duty was to God!

You left me that night and I turned my head to shed a tear. When I turned back to look at you, I saw my Godmother. She was just smiling. I realized that she was reminding me of the deep enduring friendship that you shared. I turned away again and when I looked at you, I saw my aunts and uncles. It reminded me of the familial relationships that I grew up observing. By now, the tears were streaming down my face, and I turned away.

When I turned back there was a peaceful smile on your face that soothed my aching heart and dried up my tears. I saw you as a little girl growing up in Dublin, Georgia romping and playing. I saw the good times and the hard times: the loss of your brother under mysterious circumstances and the time that you were violated, and no one was held accountable. I saw the hunger for a better life that led you at age 16 to leave home, after graduating from high school, for greener pastures in Harlem, N.Y.

I saw you falling in love and marrying my father, which resulted in the birth of five children, with only1 surviving. Through the losses and the heartache, you were a caregiver for your mother, a loving wife and mother and Transit Authority Clerk.

You took great pride in the fact that you were a faithful member of Emanuel A.M. E. Church for over 40 years. You served as an usher and a senior class member to assist new members and assist the church in raising money and spreading the gospel to those outside the faith. Your reasonable service brought you joy and peace in leading others to Christ.

So, today I salute you for your strength and courage, for never giving up and instilling these qualities in me. Thank you. I love you, until we see each other again.

Your Loving Daughter,

Clarice

My Grandmother:  By   Benjamin F. Williams, Ill

My maternal grandmother was not just a grandmother, she was grandmotherly. She was a fount of wisdom and knowledge that was not gained from just sitting behind a desk for hours upon hours in an institution of higher learning. Her perspective was gained by living through the Jim Crow south, World War 11, the Al Capone era, the civil rights movement, #Me too, Black Lives Matter, and the covid pandemic. So, when she shared her views and opinions, it came from the blood, sweat and tears of life.

She lived 98 years which meant that she saw more than all of us, she never judged. She told you what she thought and why, then let you decide what to keep and what to discard. She understood that her idiosyncrasies and opinions could be shared but not always adopted by the listener.

If life was a hardship, church provided support and joy. The gospel was her cane. Spirituality  washer most enduring pleasure. Grandma loved Sunday service. When I did not pray, she prayed for me. When I embarked on my own spiritual journey, she did not judge me, but merely stated, "as long as you believe in something baby."

No matter where I was in my life's journey, I always sought my grandmother's opinion. Good, bad, or indifferent, she imparted the truth. She was my Rock of Gibraltar, steady unmovable. I could not fathom life without her. We are a small family, that has now been decreased by one. But I know that she is looking down on us, as our guardian angel, making sure that we are all okay. No matter what I may have done, what may have been said about me, or how many times I may have been scolded, Grandma always came to see about me to make sure I was all right in every capacity, day after day, and week after week.

From here on out the months of my remaining years will be aptly renamed June, July, August, September, October, November, December, January, February, March April and Reba-May, RIP.

Your Loving Grandson,

Ben

Cirilo Roldan

Cirilo Roldán was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on August 8, 1925 to Maria Cos and
Celedonio Roldan. He and his many siblings grew up on a farm where he cultivated an appreciation for all God’s creatures. At 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed as a member of the 65th Infantry known as The Borinqueneers to Panama and the Pacific Islands defending our Nation during World War 2.

After the war he returned home to the enchanting island of Puerto Rico to claim the hand of his beautiful sweetheart, Maria Gonzalez. They wed on July 17, 1942. Their oldest daughter Margarita (“Margie”) came along soon after, followed by Pedro (“Pete”).  Within a few years the young couple set off to New York City along with their two children and a third – William (“Willie”) on the way in search of greater opportunities for their growing family. They settled in the Bronx where Cirilo found work in a factory and Maria as a hotel maid.

Having grown out of the small apartment where baths were taken in a metal tub in the kitchen (common for the time/place) they packed up and headed across town to a four bedroom apartment in the then brand new Soundview housing projects on Seward Ave. in the Clason    Point section of the Bronx.

The blessings continued as Eneida (“Terry”), George, Helen, Ernesto (“Papo”), and Judy became the circle of love that was the Gonzalez-Roldán family of the Holy Cross Roman Catholic parish. Ever committed to faith and family, Maria and Cirilo put most of their children through Catholic school at Holy Cross. The children made many happy memories playing along the banks of the sound and hunting rabbit in the (then) wild fields of the Bronx.  Prayer and hard work paved the way for progress. After some time the couple purchased their first home where the children grew into adulthood and set off to to make their own mark on the world.

During this time Cirilo worked a night shift as a yellow cab driver in New York City as his wife worked as a “salad girl” at Rockefeller University, the very jobs they would each retire from after over twenty plus years. With retirement the pair bid farewell to the cold, snowy winters of New York and headed for the warm sunshine of Orlando Florida where for over twenty years they enjoyed their dream home in the constant companionship of a bossy little Daschund named Charlie. In their nineties they moved to Grand Palms Assisted Living facility (Orlando, FL) where they lived out the rest of their days together through seventy two years of marriage.

He leaves us to find his bride in heaven where they no doubt will both lovingly look after those of us who remain behind to carry on their legacy of faith, hard work and dignity. They include their first grandchild, Annette Roldan Sanabria (Orlando, FL) whose proud mother Margarita (New York City) was their first born. Following that were two more granddaughters Veronica Roldan and Vanessa Acevedo (both of Orlando, FL) from their second born, Pete, and his wife Evelyn Roldan (Orlando, FL).

Shortly after that their daughter Helen and husband Nelson Carrero (Jacksonville, FL) added two boys to the family tree-Nelson II and David Carrero, both of Jacksonville, FL.  George and Faith (who precedes him in death) of Washington state welcomed daughters Melissa and Jennifer (Washington state) closely followed by two more boys, Yanni and Alex Stefanidis (both of California state) thanks to Terry and her husband George Stefanidis (Nee York City).

Youngest daughter, Judy and husband José Rosa (New York state) brought the “grand” total to twelve with three additions: Michael (Vietnam), Olivia, and Angelina (both of New York state). The family tree continues to branch out with great grand children Derek, Aryana, Claudia, Nicholas, Sean, Alina, and Liana.

The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Maria Roldán Gonzalez, Father Jerry, and the staff at Grand Palms Assisted Living as well as Vitas for their care of our parents in life and their compassion as they crossed over.

Calling hours will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a wake service at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November17, 2021 at Dobbs Funeral Home.  The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at St. Andrew Catholic Church located at 801 N. Hastings, Orlando.  Interment will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with military honors.

Sebastian Florida,

Vivian (Smith) Yeomans, Hopkins passed away quietly at home on October 29, 2021 after a long illness. Born on September 29, 1940, she was 81. She was a member of SS Cyril and Methodious Byzantine Catholic Church in Ft Pierce FL and a daily communicant at St Sebastian Catholic Church in Sebastian FL.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 34 years, Christopher Hopkins and her sons Paul Yeomans of East Longmeadow; Kenneth Yeomans and his wife Suzie of Wales; Brian Yeomans and fiancée Destiny Carruthers of East Longmeadow and seven grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Christopher, Shelby, Stephen, Zachary, and Nicholas; two great grandchildren, Trevor and Madyson and two stepchildren Aimee Hyland of Springfield and Michel and Meghan Hopkins of Stafford Springs CT and three step-grandchildren Hannah, Paige, and Nicole.

While raising her family Viv was a volunteer teacher assistant at Mountain View School in East Longmeadow.  Viv was a member of the St Mary Church choir in Hampden. She was employed at Farm Credit Banks, Springfield as the chief telephone operator. Viv was featured in an article from the First District Times published by Farm Credit titled, “Vivian Hopkins, The Voice of Farm Credit in that Voice an Image”.   It stated that “Viv’s voice creates, for many (in the banks associations), the very ‘image’ of Farm Credit and may even establish the caller’s perspective of the business and all its associates. She may handle as many as 700 incoming calls a day. And she hasn’t yet told anyone to “fly a kite” though the thought has, says she, “…occasionally crossed my mind.”

Viv went on to be an Executive Assistant and chief receptionist at Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company, home office in Springfield. That smile, larger than life and welcoming grace treated all with the highest professionalism. She was known as ‘Miss Mass Mutual’ to all. In an excerpt of a letter it stated: “When I think of the thousands of clients, customers and associates who have passed through the front door during your tenure as the “first face” of the Company, I can’t think of a better person to have been there to greet them all. Your energy, enthusiasm, and diligence are contagious, and have quietly provided valuable lessons to all of us in our day-to-day dealings with others.”

Viv was a fierce athlete and competed in the Senior Olympics as a “Race Walker” garnering a silver medal in the 1500-meter race and bronze medal in the 3000-meter race in 1999.

After moving to Florida, Viv’s desire to stay fit, motivated her to organize morning neighborhood walks. That was not enough. After the warmup walk, off to the National Training Center in Clermont. Open to local residents this facility to trains potential Olympians. Spinning, Zumba, Aerobics, no challenge to Viv – she loved it all and thrived on the challenges. Once Viv’s illness had progressed her friends rallied around her to show their love and support.

No matter where she was, church, work or at play her warm, cheerful smile endless energy inspired everyone.

Isabel J. Marsh

Isabel Marsh, the devoted wife of George B. Marsh and mother of Kenneth and Glenn, died peacefully on October 13, 2021, at 5:15 in the morning. She was 96 years old. Born February 10, 1925, in QuezaltenangoGuatemala, she was the youngest daughter of Rosario Maldonado and Benjamin Jaramillo. Her fondest childhood memories were of the time she spent on the family farm, La Mosqueta. While in grammar school, she met Aida, and their friendship lasted more than 80 years. Isabel came to the United States when she was 22, accompanied by her cousins Annie and Helen.  She lived in MediaPennsylvania, and took business classes, but she had plenty of time for fun. While at the Chez Vous ballroom in Philadelphia, she met the love of her life, George. They loved each other, and loved to dance. They wanted to spend every moment together, so they married December 15, 1951.  Isabel and George kept the flame of love alive for the 62 years of their marriage. Two years after they married, they welcomed their first son, Kenneth. Young and adventurous, Isabel and George set off for Guatemala, where they lived on a small farm from 1957 to 1960. Life in Guatemala, however, presented many frustrations, so they returned to the US with a parrot and their young son in tow. They settled in Richmond, Virginia, where Glenn was born. In 1962, they moved to Orlando. Isabel loved the warm weather and her new home in Pine Hills. She especially enjoyed regular family trips to the beach. Isabel was a stay-at-home mother, devoted to her two sons and committed to sharing her Catholic faith with them.  She lived her faith not only at home, but through volunteer work, taking meals to homebound people, feeding the homeless, and counseling female inmates. While taking English classes at the Orlando First Baptist Church, in the early 1960s, she met Bertha Fox, Vilma Mackenzie and Susie Rudy, who became lifelong friends. Isabel and George took many trips to Europe, and Spain—the birthplace of her favorite singer, Julio Iglesias—was among her favorite destinations.  She never tired of dancing to his songs and singing along. Isabel was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Pine Hills for 60 years. In her later years she received loving care at home from Yari, Nancy, Yelitza, Silvia and Elizabeth.  A neighbor and close friend, Jeff, would come to the rescue when needed, and she often called him her “third son.” Isabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; brother, Benjamin; and sisters Delia and Martha. She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth and Glenn, and their spouses, Luma and Cheryl. May she rest in peace and soon be reunited with her loved ones to enjoy all God’s blessings for eternity.

The family will be receiving friends at Dobbs Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.  The funeral mass will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 11:00 am., followed by interment at Winter Garden Cemetery.

Isabel J. Marsh (Spanish Version of Obituary)

Isabel y George hicieron muchos viajes a Europa.
