James Roger Lawrence


Mr. James Roger Lawrence age 80 of Orlo Vista passed away Friday, April 23rd, 2010. James was born in Laurel Hill, Florida, the son of the late Willie E. and Lula (Rainey) Lawrence. he served in the US National Guard and was employed as a grove caretaker in citrus grove management.


James leaves to cherish his memory, wife Mary E. (Hammmock) Lawrence; daughter Teresa Lawrence Giles of Ocoee, FL; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandcildren, 4 grreat-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.


The family will be receiving friends at Dobbs Funeral Home from 1:00 until 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 1st, 2010. The funeral service will follow visitation at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at Lake Hill Cemetery, Orlando.

John Hillyard Barber

John Hillyard Barber, age 76 went home to be with the Lord on April 28, 2010. John was born in Birmingham, Alabama. After 2 years service in the Korean War, John graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Education. He began his teaching career at Maynard Evans High School and then went on to be an assistant principal at William R. Boone High School and West Orange High School.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Barbara; his children John Hillyard Barber, Jr., and Ann Barber of Orlando; his sisters Betsy Bancroft and Ann (Jim) Haggard of Birmingham, Alabama.

The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, May 4th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. at Dobbs Funeral Home. The service will begin at 7:00 PM.

Godfrey Waddell Updike, Jr.


GW Updike, 63 died Sunday, April 24, 2010. Because G.W. trusted in Christ as his Savior as a boy, his family rejoices in the certain knowledge that when we are "absent from the body we are present with the Lord". Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is." Jeremiah 17:7.


GW loved three things very much: The Army, Boy Scouts, and his family, GW graduated from Virginia Military Institute, and immediately entered the US Army as a regular infantry officer in June 1969 serving until November 1979. He completed both Airborne and Ranger schools, Infantry basic and advanced courses, Command and General Staff College, the Army War college and a tour in Vietnam. He served in the US Army Reserve for nineteen years and retired in 2004 with the rank of colonel. He was activated for Desert Shield and Desert Storm serving in Europe and Saudi Arabia. GW loved his time in service and considered it to be both an honor and a privilege to serve his country.


GW loved Scouting. He began Boy Scouts when he was 11, became Eagle Scout at 16 and has been involved in various roles since then. He loved introducing his sons Adam, Joshua, Jacob and James to the organization that he believed help develop men of character, faith, and citizenship. He was selected as a Silver Beaver in 2003 and the 2008 Eagle Scout class Honoree.


In addition to his job at Lockheed Martin, he taught evenings at Webster University and FIT. His hard work allowed his wife Debbie, to be a stay-at-home mom to their eight incredible children. "His Girls" - Rebekah, Abigail, Christiane, and Rachel had their Dad wrapped around their fingers. He loved watching his boys play football and basketball. It was his joy to see his children grow up and honor God with their lives. "Dad" was his most distinguished honor.


GW born in Charlottesville, Virginia to Godfrey W. and Frances (Bailey) Updike, Sr., moved to Central Florida in 1979 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Central Florida. he leaves to cherish his memory, mother Frances Updike of Charlottesville, Virginia; wife Debbie (Colvert) Updike of Orlando; sons, Adam Michael, Joshua Gaven, Jacob Scott, James Eston Updike; daughters, Rebekah Paige, Abigail Kaytlyn, Deborah Christiane, Rachel Ann Updike all of Orlando and brother Malon Sim of Atlanta, Georgia.


Public Visitation will be held from 2:30 PM until 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Central Florida, located at 700 Good Homes Road, Orlando FL 32818, followed by the funeral service at 4:00 PM with Pastor Clayton Cloer officiating. Interment will be at Winter Garden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Central Florida.

Ruby Elaine Preyer

Mrs. Ruby Elaine Preyer, 61 of Orlando passed away Tuesday, April 20th, 2010. A lifetime Floridian, Ruby was born in Orlando, the daughter of the John (deceased) and Mary (Keefe) Simmerman and was a homemaker. She leaves to cherish her memory, mother Mary Simmerman; husband Charles Preyer of Orlando; three daughters, Pamela Teresa Moss of Altamonte Springs, Julie Elaine Abner of Conway, Nicole Lynn Nix of Altamonte Springs; two brothers, John T. Simmerman of Orlando, Eddie Simmerman of Conway; and 1 grandson, Marcus Collin Anderson of Orlando. A memorial service will be held at Dobbs Funeral Home at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010.

An Obituary Tto Our Beloved Mother

Maharagi Dowlatram was born on September 19, 1933 in Wakenam Guyana. She was the oldest of four children, two brothers and one sister. She was married to Mr. Deo Dowlatram and together they were the parents of eight children, three of whom predeceased her. She and her husband migrated to the USA in 1984. After living for several years in the US, they returned to Guyana. Subsequently, she became a widow and dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. Although her life appeared difficult at times, she was able to still provide comfort to others. She always gave more than she had even denying herself many opportunities fo rthe sake and well being of her family. She is survived by daughter, Indra Milland of New York; son, Kishor Ram of Minneapolis, MN; daughters Dhamwati Parbhu of Guyana, Parbati Singh of Ocoee, Khamwati Singh of New Jersey; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In loving gratitude, she was well-admired and loved by all that encountered her kindness and generosity, especially her family members. We all love her and she will be dearly missed.

The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 6:00 until 9:00 pm at Dobbs Funeral Home. The service will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 10:00A at the funeral home, followed by interment at Metro Crematory in Ocoee.

Harold Curtis Singletary

Mr. Harold Curtis Singletary, age 70 of Auburndale, passed away Sunday, April 18th, 2010 at Good Sheperd Hospice. Harold is a lifetime Floridian born in Plant city, Florida, the son of the Carl and Lavinia (Rogers) Singletary. He was retired after 30 years of service with the Orange County Corrections Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Lavinia (Rogers) Singletary. Harold leaves to cherish his memory, wife Patricia McCarthy Singletary of Auburndale; daughter, Brenda Singletary of Clermont; stepdaughter Sheila (Michael) Montgomery of Ocoee; two step sons Greg (Tina) Queene of Sanford, Randy (Marnie) Moquin of Orlando; two sisters, Janice Raines of Eureka, JoAnn (Orville) Hagood of Ocala; brother Larry (Sue) Singletary of Live Oak; sister-in-law Judy McCarthy; grandchildren, Christine & Stephen Holbrook, and step-grandchildren Gregory & Rylee Queene, Jacob Moquin and Emilie Montgomery.

The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Dobbs Funeral Home followed by the service at 7:00 PM with Chaplain Joseph McGahey, Sr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shepherd Hospice Center in Auburndale.

Cheryl Lynn Kennedy


Cheryl Lynn Kennedy, age 54, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2010. she was born in New Port Richie, Florida, the daughter of Otis and Katherine (Bradley) Boyd. She moved to Apopka from Palatka in 1985. Cheryl was employed as a poker dealer in the hospitality industry. Cheryl leaves to cherish her memory, father Otis Boyd of Apopka; husband Richard Kennedy of Apopka; daughter, Danielle St. John of Apopka and grand-daughter Morgan St. John of Apopka.


A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Dobbs Funeral Home.

Sarah Ellen Fragale


Sarah Ellen Ashcraft Fragale, born February 22, 1924, passed from this life on April 15, 2010. Born in Peoria, WV, the daughter of Charles and Mary Martha Carpenter Ashcraft, she married Peter J. Fragale on November 27, 1946. She is survived by her children, Anthony (Tony), Orlando, FL, Gary (Gig), Morgantown, WV, and Mary Martha (Orlando, FL), grandchildren David Fragale (Orlando, FL), Dean (Stephanie) Fragale, Amanda (Johnny) Seggie, and Cassandra Fragale, all of Morgantown, WV, and four great-grandchildren: Gavin and Isabella Fragale, Duke Seggie, and Jacoby Sampson. She is also survived by two sisters, Bertha Ashcraft of Clarksburg, WV, and Genevieve Staples of Shinnston, WV, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Margaret and her brother Arthur, and her husband.

Known affectionately as "Susie" by her friends, "Suffy" by her family, and "Nunny Susie" by her grandchildren, she is best known in Clarksburg for her 26 years of service as crossing guard at St. Mary's Elementary and Notre Dame High Schools and as a meter maid for the City of Clarksburg. She moved to Orlando, FL, in December 1993, and following the death of her husband in 1994, began work as a paraprofessional working with exceptional education students at Edgewater High School for the next 8 years when she finally retired, three months short of her 80th birthday due to health problems. Known as "Grandma" to all her students and fellow staff, she touched many lives with genuine affection and belief in the abilities of her students. Quick with a smile, a hug, a word of encouragement and/or loving correction, she was always available to anyone who needed her to listen, to advise, to assist in any way she could. A woman of deep yet quiet faith, she was love in action.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 22, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. at Dobbs Funeral Home, 430 N. Kirkman Road, Orlando, FL. Scott Edward Larson


Scott E. Larson, 49 of Windermere, joined his Lord and Savior on April 11th, 2010. Scott left this earth surrounded by the people he most enjoyed being with in life, his loving wife of 27 years, Ladelle, sons Jared and Micah and daughter, Bekah. Scott was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the son of Edward Orlando and Beverly (Straight) Larson and is also survived by his sister, Carrie Csordacsics and brother Lee Larson of Sioux Falls, SD.


Scott was most recently employed as the President of Franklin Square Capital Partners, where he led the firms marketing, sales, distribution and operation efforts. Prior to joining Franklin Square, Scott served as senior vice president, national sales manager of CNL Securities Corp. Scott attended First Baptist Church and Board Member of The First Academy where he helped provide a Christian education to hundreds of young adults. Scott enjoyed the lakes of Windermere and vacationing with his family. He also thoroughly enjoyed attending his children's sporting and theatrical events.


A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Orlando on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to The First Academy in his memory.

Edward Lee Morris



Mr. Edward Lee Morris, age 56 of Orlando., passed away Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 at Shands at The University of Florida, Gainesville. Edward was born in Belle Glade, Florida, the son of Booker T. and Ethel (Carter) Morris. He was employed in the commercial janitorial industry.


Edward leaves to cherish his memory, wife Kellie (Burney) Morris; son Victor T. Simmons; stepdaughter Nicole Burney; sister Annie G. Prince; two brothers Jesse James, Jr., Samuel Morris; grand-daughter Rusha Simmons; and step-grandchild, Nielle Burney. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, April 15, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Dobbs Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Orlando at 2:0 PM on Saturday, April 17th, 2010 followed by interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Brian Christopher Gordon



Brian Gordon, age 29 passed into the arms of Angels the morning of Monday, April 5th, 2010; taken from this life far too early through an accident with heavy equipment. He is survived by the joy and the priority of his life -- his children: Seth (age 5) and Serenity (age 3). Also left to cherish his memory are his parents: Elmer (Lynn) Gordon and Susie Milo, and his sister: Jeannette Gordon. Brian is also loved an mourned by extended family members in Oklahoma, Texas, Ilinois and California.

Our heavy hearts are comforted by memories of Brian and his loving nature and willingness to help others. He was a Christian and loved Jesus. It is with unbearable sadness that he is given into God's loving care. The Memorial Service will be held at Dobbs Funeral Home, Friday, April 9th, 2010 at Noon.
