Janis Theresa Slaughter

Janis Theresa Slaughter, age 62, of Orlando, passed away Tuesday, November 17th, 2020 at Cornerstone Hospice at Orlando Health.  A lifetime Floridian, Janis was born in Orlando, the daughter of the Late Wilzie (Lollar) and Lonnie Lee Poole and was a homemaker.  

Janis leaves to cherish her memory, husband John  Slaughter; two daughters Jennifer Slaughter, Christine Slaughter; brother Michael Poole,  all of Orlando; she is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Jerry Wilson, Jonni Slaughter, Dylan Wilson.

Calling hours will be held from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, followed by the funeral service on Saturday, November 21st, 2020 at Dobbs Funeral Home with Pastor Thomas Hensley officiating.

William Henry Word

William Henry Word, age 81, of Orlando, FL passed away Sunday, November 1st, 2020 at Health Central Hospital in Ocoee.  He was born in Friendsville, TN, the son  of the late Edith (Hodge)  Word.  He served in the Army National Guard and was employed as a machinist.  

William leaves to cherish his memory, wife Essie Dykes Word of Orlando; three sons Billy Word of Ocoee, Timmy Word, of Orlando, Rusty Word, of Orlando; sister Janice of Tennessee; brother, Lester of Tennessee; 5 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Calling hours are 10:00 until 11:00 am on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Dobbs Funeral Home with a Masonic service.  Interment will be held at 1:00 pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL.

Marie Elizabeth Shaffer

Marie Shaffer  June 1 1929- Nov 4. 2020 

Marie Elizabeth Shaffer, age 91 passed away on November 4, 2020.  She was born in Charleston, West Virginia the daughter of Martha and Walter Pennington.   She was born in Charleston W.V. In 1929 daughter of. Martha And Walter Pennington.

She married her husband  Calvin Clyde Shaffer in 1950 and moved to Orlando Florida in 1967.  Marie spent her carrier working for the oard of education in W.V.  Worked for Valencia College in the 70s and 80s then went to Sears Corporation and retired there in 1992.  She got to make her dream trip to Hawaii 1992.   Marie loved her church Metro West Church of the Nazarene, she’s been there 54 years and loved every minute of it, she loved her Lord and  Savior and heavens a little nicer today cause she’s there.....God Bless

Marie is predeceased by her husband Calvin Clyde Shaffer (1999); sons Micheal Wayne, Randall Scott, and Brent Todd Shaffer of Orlando; grandchildren Patricia Trainum, Stacey Passera, Kimberly Shaffer, Sharlotte White, Michele VanDevan;   20 great grands and 4 great great grand children.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Glen Haven Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Ronald Benjamin officiating.  The cemetery is located at 2300 Temple Drive, Winter Park FL 32789

Kevin Albert Schwenke

Kevin Schwenke, 46, of Groveland, Florida was called home on October 26, 2020.  Kevin was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 24, 1974.  Moving to Orlando, Florida at the age of five Where he spent most of his remaining years.  Although Kevin never wedded, he loved as if he had. Heidi and Kevin were together for 17 years. Heidi has a daughter named Haylee whom Kevin loved and cherished as his own.

In his later years, Kevin fought a hard battle with esophagus cancer and appeared to be in the lead at his time of death. Although the actual cause remains unclear, it is apparent the Lord was ready to call him home.

Kevin is predeceased by his mother, Carol, brother Johnny, and sister Annette. Kevin left behind his father Albert, Aunt Velma, sisters Lisa and Melissa, and his brother Tommy. Kevin also had a handful of nieces and nephews, Jessica, Kris, Becky, Alicia, Eric, Emily, Tommy, Aaron, Ashton, Anthony, Alex, along with great-niece, and nephew Taven and Khloe.

A viewing will be held at Dobbs Funeral Home Saturday, Nov 7th at 10 am. 430 N Kirkman Rd. Orlando Fl,  32811,  followed by burial at 11 am Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 400 Wood Lawn Cemetery Rd. Gotha, Fl 34734

Jerry Joseph Stought

                                                    

April 21, 1931 – October 26, 2020

Jerry Joseph Stought died on October 26.  Born in Columbus, Ohio on April 21, 1931, he graduated from Millersport High School in 1949 and Ohio University in 1954.  He lost his leg in a tragic boating accident when he was thirteen, but that didn’t dampen his enthusiasm for doing all he could in life.  He loved to sing, act, swim, and dance, among other things.

 

Jerry met Mary Louise Pugh and married in 1955.  They were married 54 years.  He worked in his parents’ grocery store and later as a sales representative for a pharmaceutical company.  He loved being with people and never knew a stranger.  He and Mary traveled all over the world, visiting six continents, with countries too numerous to list. 

 

He is preceded in death by Mary and his son, Stanley.  He is survived by his brother, Keith Stought of Millersport, OH and his three sons, Stephen Stought (Gay) of Hermitage, TN; Todd Stought (Janell) of St Cloud, FL; and Jay Stought of Kissimmee, FL.  He had six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Helen Barton

Helen Barton was born on December 22, 1931 in Lynn, Alabama to Marion Wesley and Rettie Belle Barton.  She was the tenth of twelve children born to that union.

Helen moved with her family to Winter Haven, FL as a teenager. She attended Florida College. After college she moved to Orlando and began working with Ford Motor Credit and worked as a customer service representative until she retired.

 

Helen was a faithful Christian and a member of the West Orange Church of Christ in Winter Garden, Florida.  Helen loved sports.  She enjoyed playing tennis and water skiing.  But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.  Any opportunity to be with them she took advantage of especially spending time with her sisters Mary and Martha.

Helen passed away from this life on November 3, 2020 at 12:43 am in her sister’s home surrounded by her loving family.  She is survived by 3 siblings Mary Barton Pruitt, Martha Barton Polk, and Foy Hugo Barton. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews throughout the country.

 

Though Helen never married or had children of her own she is loved as if she were a mother and grandmother to so many.  She considers Robin Pruitt (Kathy Scott Pruitt) and Linda Kay Pruitt Vaughn (Ronnie Vaughn) to be her children bringing her a total of 6 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren with 1 on the way.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at Dobbs Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made in Helen’s memory to Central Florida Bible Camp at 23813 CR-44A Eustis, Florida 32736.
