Nancy L. Gaines

Ms. Nancy L. Gaines, resident of Orlando, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Everett E. Gaines, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009. Born in Jacksonville, FL on July 25, 1955, she moved with her family to Orlando, FL and attended school there. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Jane A. Lucia and stepfather Morris G. Lucia, three brothers; Gerald L. Gaines and wife Diane, William E. Gaines, Michael D. Gaines and wife Belinda, two nephews, a niece, four great nephews, an aunt Mrs. Emily G. Tinsley and cousins. Patricia A. Byrne Fennessy

Patricia A. Byrne Fessessy, born in Yonkers, New York, May 16, 1932, died in Orlando, Florida on November 18, 2009. Daughter of Arthur and Evelyne Byrne (deceased). She is survived by Arthur J. Byrne, Jr., (brother) Michael A. Fennessy (son), Christian Fennesy McNeil (daughter), four grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Missed an loved by all. Richard C. Kortes, Jr.

Richard C. Kortes, Jr., (Rick) at the age 50, passed suddenly on Saturday, November 14, 2009 in Orlando, FL. A memorial celebrating the life of Rick Kortes will be at the West Orlando Rotary Community Center, 475 S. Kirkman Road from 6 PM to 9 PM on November 24, 2009, where he worked as chef and building maintenance. Rick was a professional welder and mechanic. Rick died doing what he loved, riding his panhead.

Rick was a good man and didn't turn down anyone needing help. Rick was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 31, 1959. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ann Kortes; his loving son Jonathan; his father and mother Richard and Mary Jane Kortes; his brother Duane and Susan Kortes; their siblings Franciska and Stefania; his brother Christopher Kortes and partner Vanessa; Rick's sister Kristina Avila and their siblings, Ethan and Emma; Rick's dog and cat Jack and Uno; numerous life time friends, neighbors and free riders.

Tricia Fischer, age 25 of Winter Garden passed away Monday, November 16th 2009. She was survived by her mother Rita Fischer; father William (Bill) Fischer; brothers Richard Kramer and wife Jill, and Eric Fischer; and grandmother Agnes Kramer.

Robert F. Alvarez

Robert F. Alvarez, 66 of Davenport, Florida passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2009. Robert was born in Havana, Cuba on September 15, 1943. In 1957 he moved to West Pal Beach, FL. While in college, he met and married Eunice Perez Salcines on January 24, 1964. They had two children together, Eunice and Robert.

Robert was a top producing sales executive for Marriott Vacation Club, where he won salesman of the year, and achieved presidential status. He had a unique ability to connect personally with clients and whether they purchased or not, he always made an indelible impression.

Robert was dedicated to his family and loved to spend time with his grand-children. He loved vacationing and had traveled in Europe and in particular went on many cruises of the Caribbean. He was a generous and caring husband and father. He enjoyed swimming with his family and taught both his grand kids to swim. He was the life of the party, entertaining his family with funny stories from his life. He had a knack for always landing on his feet no matter what life threw at him. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice P. Alvarez, his two children, Eunice A. Fuller & her husband Jeff and Robert H. Alvarez & his wife Emily, his grandchildren Robert H. Alvarez Jr., and Gabriella J. Fuller, and his brother and sisters, Mariana Sylvester and Fernando Alvarez both of West Palm Beach, FL and Dalia Alvarez of Boston, MA.

The family will be receiving friends on Monday, November 16, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Orlando located at 3000 S. John Young Parkway, Orlando from 1:00 - 3:00 PM. BLAKELY, PAUL DAVID

Mr. Paul David Blakely, 55 of Winter Park, Florida passed away Saturday, October 17th, 2009. Paul was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan the son of Leonard and Violet (Vance) Blakely. He moved to Central Florida in 1972. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and was a lifetime ABATE member. Paul always enjoyed the Toy Runs every Christmas which benefited the Central Florida Children's Home. Paul owned 2 Harleys, his favorite being the well known "Old Blue".

Paul began his career as a truck driver and then moved on to become an iron worker. The Evans High School Trojan statue was one of Paul's projects. Paul then returned to the trucking industry and started both Vitalis Trucking Company and Vital Logistics Transportation Services.

He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Paula (Steward) Blakely of Orlando; daughter, Amy Blakely of Orlando; son, David Blakely of Orlando; sisters, Laura Heckman of Titusville, Pam Hamilton of Lockhart, Debra Lynn Komori of Michigan; brothers, Tommy Percival of Kissimmee, Timmy Percival and Santo Percival both of Leesburg; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Paul was a devoted husband and father, a hard worker, a loyal friend with a big heart and warped sense of humor. He will be sorely missed!

The family will be receiving friends from 4 - 5 pm on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Windermere Union Church in Windermere, FL. Peni Ann Kelty

Mrs. Peni Ann (Lotoza) Kelty, age 39 of Orlando, passed away on Wednesday, October 14th, 2009. Peni was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of Wayne and Catherine (Kennedy) Lotoza. Peni moved to Central Florida from Miami in 1990 and received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Rollins College. She was a theatrical actress belonging to the Orlando Repertory Theatre and Sleuths Mystery Theatre. Peni is survived by her parents, Wayne and Catherine Lotoza of Ft. Lauderdale; husband Christian Kelty of Orlando; and brother, Wayne Lotoza, Jr., of Tennessee.

A Performing Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 18th at the Orlando Repertory Theare, located at 1001 East Princeton in Orlando. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Orlando Repertory Scholarsip Fund in Peni Kelty's name. This scholarship will be used to assist youth Pre-K to 18 so that they can attend classes, camps, and specialized training in the summr program.

Michael G. Lyons

Michael G. Lyons, age 57 of Orlando, FL, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2009. Michael is the son of Donald T. Lyons of Altamone Springs and the late Gloria M. "Gerrard" Lyons. He is the brother of Douglas Lyons and his wife Julia Wooten of Seattle, WA; Deb Lyons and her husband Steve Jankowski of Belmar, NJ and John Lyons and his wife Helen of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by a nephew Felix Lyons of Seattle, WA and a niece Ashley Clark of Dothan, AL.

Mike Lyons moved to Orlando from Kittery, Maine at a young age, graduating from Edgewater High School in 1970 He began his career in Orlando in 1971 by publishing the city's first underground newspaper and promoting the first rock show at the Citrus Bowl (Cactus, Bloodrock, Potliquor and Dr. John for $3). He was Music Director and announcer for WORJ, WDIZ and WHTQ in Orlando, Program Director for 98 Rock (WXTB) in Tampa and spent the last 8 years of his radio career as Mornings/Assistant Program Director in Miami. Mike entered the record business in the mid 90's. From 1995 - 2000 he was VP of AAA Promotions at Lee Arnold Marketing. Mike joined TripleARadio.com as columnist of The Forest and contributing editor from 2001 - Present.

Irene Azato Flynn

Irene Azato Flynn passed away on September 20, 2009 at the age of 86 following a short illness. Irene's family takes great comfort that she has rejoined Frank, the love of her life, in heaven. Irene loved her family, her friends, and her Church. Irene and Frank, who at one time owned and lived in the former Cherry Plaza Hotel on beautiful Lake Eola, met many famous and interesting residents of their hotel who came from all over the world, including a U.S. President. Irene is survived by her son, Patrick of Houston, Texas, his wife, Jeannine (Keel) Flynn, and their two daughters, Margo and Emily. She is also survived by her daughter, Sandy Peachey of Orlando, and Sandy's two children, Sarah and Jack; and by her daughter, Suzanne Collins of Virginia, and Suzanne's seven children, Christopher, Aaron, Jonathan, Michael (Mikey), Bobby (Robert James), Christy, and Thomas (Tommy). Irene was also blessed to have five great grand-children. Irene was a treasure that can never be replaced. She loved Florida, especially its beaches. She loved butterflies and everyone she met. Her life was as bright as her favorite color, yellow. Her happy countenance and positive attitude will truly be missed. Irene's family wishes to provide a special thank you to the staff at Summerville at Ocoee, and to the staff at Quality Healthcare in Winter Garden (especially to Shaunagh Cook), for all of their good care and attention to Irene over the past nineteen months. Mr. John Joseph Augustine, age 54 of Orlando, passed away on Monday, September 14th, 2009. John was the son of th late Leo Joseph and Minnie Grace (Cox) Augustine who survives him of Orlando. He was a supervisor with Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. He leaves to cherish his memory, sister Barbara Olson, and brothers Charles and Dennis Augustine.

Juan Flores

Mr. Juan Flores, 79 of Orlando, passed away on Friday, September 4th, 2009 at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital. Juan was born in Lima, Peru, the son of the late Romulo and Consuelo (Castillo) Flores. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Mercedes (Sosa) Flores; son, Juan E. Flores; three daughters, Consuelo, Mercedes and Carmen Flores and 5 grandhcildren. The family will be receiving friends from 3:00 until 5:30 PM at Dobbs Funeral Home. Mrs. Magdalena Marrone, age 82, of Mulberry, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, August 26th, 2009 in Orlando. Magdalena was born in India, Yugoslavia, on January 28, 1927, the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Gerlinger) Kratz. She moved to Central Florida from New York in 1973 and was a Homemaker. She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband Anthony Marrone of Orlando; two daughters, Diane Carlucci, Denise Papke both of Orlando, FL; a son, William Marrone of Lithia, FL; sister, Theresa Tuma of Bethel, NY; 5 grandchildren, Joseph Carlucci, Kevin Marrone, Lisa Sawyer, Laura Curtis, Bobby Papke, 10 great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Anthony and Kaitlyn Papke, Lindsay Spencer, Ryan Sawyer, Jeremy, Justin, and Jordin Carlucci-Harris, Ethan and Elise Marrone. Donald Erwin Shaver

August 21, 2009, Dr. Donald Erwin Shaver died at the age of 84 in Orlando, Florida. Formerly of Baldwinsville, NY, he was a Chiropractor there for 35 years. Donald was predeceased by his loving wife, Betty Shaver. He is survived by his children, Gail (Steve) Elliott, Temecula, Ca., Kathy (Pete)Ahern, Clermont, Fl., Rick (Barbara) Sugarland, TX., Bob (Edvique), Cumming, Ga., Don (Jeanette), Windermere, FL. and Doug (Wendy)Glen Allen, VA. Also, Sue (Danny) Goss, sister to his wife Betty, 19 grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Donald was a veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Marines stationed in Guam. He was also a member of Shrine (Tigris Temple, Syracuse, NY), Masonic Temple and performed various volunteer positions. M. Leigh Whitney

Mr. M. Leigh Whitney, 75, of Orlando went to be with Jesus, his Lord on Thursday morning, August 20th, 2009, after assuring and being re-assured that all of his children knew Christ. Leigh was born in Norfolk, VA, the son of the late Marion Leigh and Virginia (Morgan) Whitney. He moved to Central Florida from Massachusetts in 1978 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Central Florida. He was employed as a Quality Assurance Manager in the Aerospace Industry and later was an Account Executive at Philip Crosby Associates. He spent many years serving Christ as a Deacon, Bible study teacher and numerous other areas of service. Leigh leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 56 years, Billie (Gray) Whitney of Orlando; three daughters, Cheryl Harmon and husband Glenn of Melbourne, B.J. Zubli and husband Pete of Gotha, Ginny Michalski and husband Jim of Jacksonville, FL; four sons, Jim Whitney and wife Kathy of Hudson, NH, Rick Whitney and wife May of Ocoee, Tom Whitney and wife Sarah of Clermont, Dave Whitney and wife Brittany of Winter Garden, FL; brother, Rev. Norman Whitney of Graham, NC; 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. DeVere A. Sturm, Jr.

Mr. DeVere A. Sturm , Jr., 81, of Orlando. , passed away Sunday, August 9th, 2009. DeVere was born in Olean, NY on December 13, 1927, the son of the late DeVere A. and Phoebe (Kramer) Sturm Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II and was employed as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry. DeVere was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Hole in One Club. He is preceded in death by his brother William (2/19/1992). He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Tamiko (Kato) Sturm of Orlando; daughter, Cynthia Sturm of Orlando, FL; brother, Ronald Sturm of Maryland; and devoted canine companion, Coco the Beagle. Betty McCoy Poteat passed away peacefully, with her family by her side on Friday, July 31st. Betty was a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. Betty will be missed by her family and friends whose lives were touched through her journey in life. She will be remembered for her fighting spirit in her fight with diabetes and heart disease. She was a loving, nurturing mother and a devoted loving wife. She was born on May 26, 1940 to Carl and Lillamae McCoy and grew up in Logan, West Virginia. She moved to Orlando, Florida in 1954. Raianne Hope Permaul

Amy and I have been together for a long time. Ever since the beginning, we have been husband and wife. Even though the love we have for one another was and is very strong, something has always been missing. Our circle was not complete. On March 25th, Amy told me I was going to be a dad and on that day, the circle began to close. As each day went on, the circle got closer and closer to being complete. A few weeks later, I went to one of Amy's doctors appointments. It was the day I would hear her heartbeat for the first time. As I sat in the exam room listening to the doctor putting the Doppler on her belly I didn't hear what I was expecting and I started to get worried. Then I remembered something that Jill told me; it would sound like a choo choo train. As I sat and listened, there it was. My little choo choo was chugging away. The circle got closer to being complete. During the next few weeks things changed, choo choo grew and developed, and we found out choo choo was going to be a girl. Her name would be Raianne Hope Permaul. People have said everything happens for a reason and God has a plan for everyone on this planet. Well, I think part of her plan was to bring two separate families together to make one. I guess her and God were in a hurry to get to work. She decided to come early. She was born on July 25th, four months early. I became a dad, Amy became a mom , our moms and dads became grandparents, and our brothers and sisters became aunts and uncles. For that short time that she was with us, our circle was completed. After she was gone from our world, I wondered why. Why give her to us just to take her back. I think Amy put it best when she told me that we had created something so perfect and pure that God needed her back. So I thank God for letting Amy and I create a perfect angel. Now our little angel of hope is up there watching over all of us. To all of our family and friends, never give up hope and don't let hope slip away because without hope, the circle would never have been completed.

Sarah Elizabeth Vallely, age 25 of Orlando, passed away on July 28, 2009 at Winter Park Hospital. Sarah was born in Long Island, New York to Robert and Sharon (Green) Vallely. She and her family moved to Central Florida in 1987. Sarah was a free spirit who was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend. Her very first job was the character Chip at Disney. She also portrayed Mickey Mouse. Sarah was employed as a day care teacher at Kindercare, as she had a special love for children. Her heart always went out to children who needed that extra ounce of attention. Her parents fondly remember how she would take her last dollar and buy the homeless a happy meal. Sarah also loved talking on the phone. There wasn’t a day that went by that her parents and friends didn’t hear from her. Sarah is survived by her parents Sharon and Robert Vallely of Orlando; fiancé, Patrick Harmon; son, Robert Vallely; daughter, Ashley Harmon; son, Sean Harmon; stepchildren, Laurelli Harmon, Jamie Ortiz, Patrick Harmon, Jr.; brother, Richard (Wendy); sister, Tabitha (Walker) Hall and brother, Timothy (Kim) Wood, all of Orlando. Luis Michael Gabriel

Luis Michael Gabriel, age 28 of Orlando, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2009. He was born February 3, 1981 in Bridgeport, Connecticut and relocated to Florida in 1991. He was employed by Behr Distribution Center in Orlando, Florida. Luis leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Nilsa and David Dorbat of Orlando; his children, Evan Luis Gabriel, 3 years old and Arianna Gabriel, 4 months old, both of Orlando, Florida; brothers, Dave Lee Dorbat, Charlie Matthew Dorbat and David Dorbat Jr.; one sister, Jessica Luz Dorbat of Deltona, Florida; maternal grandmother, Maria Arroyo and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Luis loved being a D.J., skateboarding, fishing, playing his guitars, playing dominos, sketching and he totally enjoyed horror movies. He was a free spirit and was active and always on the go. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Faith Assembly of God, located at 2008 N. Goldenrod in Orlando with Pastor Phil Waisanen officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service at Greenwood Cemetery.
