Rita Rose Cooper, age 84 of Windermere, Florida passed away Monday, January 19th, 2015 at her residence. Rita was born in New York City, NY, the daughter of the late Clarisa (Rubly) and Frank Strakele.
After a successful career of more than thirty years as a classroom teacher, Rita challenged herself with a brand new career. When most people are satisfied to enjoy retirement, she chose to become a flight attendant for United Airlines and for ten years she was based in San Francisco. Rita's proud husband, Tom, pinned on her 'Wings' as per the photo after she successfully qualified to fly! This new direction topped off a lifetime of international travel and allowed her the excitement of continuing to meet new friends who shared her interest in flying.
Rita's love of animals was expressed with her own menagerie through the years - from Sugar the dog to INKY her beloved cat as shown in the photo. The neediest of animals would all seek her out and then enjoy a life of comfort and joy. Rita lived a very full life in all aspects, from travelling the world, her favorite place being Hawaii, making new friends wherever she went and an unselfish devotion to her special animal companions."
The funeral service was held at Dobbs Funeral Home at 10:00 am on Monday, January 26th, 2015 with Rev. Russ Donahue officiating. Rita will be interred at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida with her husband Thomas F. Cooper who preceded her in 2005.
