Theresa
“Hazel” was born on June 27, 1958 to Edgar and Gertude Bumbury in Georgetown,
Guyana. Theresa “Hazel” migrated to
Canada in 1974, where she completed her secondary education and then attended
the University of Toronto, where she graduated with a degree in Criminal
Justice. Hazel’s passion for education continued in many other areas. When she entered the workplace, she joined an
insurance company and there she completed many courses related to her job.
Theresa “Hazel” migrated to the United States, first in Buffalo, New York and
later in Orlando, Florida until her death.
In Orlando, Theresa “Hazel” strived for excellence and encouraged her
children to work hard and perform to their full potential.
Theresa “Hazel” was always known to have a
pleasant smile. She enjoyed being a blessing to others and continued to have a
positive spirit when she was unfortunately diagnosed with glioblastoma (brain
cancer) in January 2013. Although her diagnosis was terminal, she continued to
fight to overcome her illness. For the last two and a half years of her life,
Theresa made sure to keep her spirits up and this seemed to give her strength
to live past her prognosis. She encouraged everyone around her to stay strong
and remain hopeful.
Theresa
passed away on September 28, 2015. And as the scripture, 2 Timothy 4:7 states,
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the
faith.” Theresa “Hazel” is survived by her mother, her husband (Sherman John),
her daughters (Kamesha John, Zarah John, Savia John), her son (Andre Blenman),
her grand-daughters (Emani Hewitt, Eva Blenman,

John), her sisters (Gwendoline Bumbury Grant, Phyllis James, Desiree Matheson,
Cheryl Bumbury), her brothers (Charles
Bunbury, Leonard Bumbury), 7 nieces and nephews, and many more relatives and
friends. She has truly been a blessing to everyone around her. We will all miss her.
