Anadilia Ortega De Ponce

Our Loving “Mamá”, Anadilia Ortega de Ponce has gone to be with our Lord Father on July 6th, 2023. Mamá's legacy lives on, leaving behind through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the terrain she built with her own two hands. Mamá was a strong, hard-working woman that worked for everything she had since she was just a child. She will be remembered for her hard work, personality and spirit. Everyone that knew Mamá will remember her hilarious sense of humor, dancing, and smiling to merengue and bachata. She is famous for her numerous recipes, and the quality and taste of her food. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a center of love. She was happiest when the family was together and was the core of unity and determination through love, putting meaning and significance behind the family name.

Anadilia Ortega de Ponce was born in Boca de Mao, Dominican Republic on August 6th, 1935. Eventually, she moved to Boca Chica with her husband, Domingo Ponce (Papa)seeking a better life for her family. She went from collecting rocks piles to be sold for construction to creating a way of life for herself, and all eleven of her children. They made a living through cultivating the Conuco (farmland) and selling animals as well as becoming the local butchers. After many hardships and a long fight for their land they secured a future for their family and became the first family to establish a community they later named Alto de Chavon in Boca Chica. Mamá and Papa were loved and well respected by all the residents in the communality they established. Mamá will return to her homeland to be reunited in heaven with Papa and her beloved children she once lost. Mamá’s tribute along with Papa will forever be remembered passing the streets named after them in Altos De Chavon.
