Balbina (Balo) V. Selman

Beloved wife of Laurie Selman, passed away on July 16, 2009 in Orlando, Florida in her 98th year. Step-mother to Peter (Jocelyn) from Las Vegas and Stephen (Louisa) from Miami. Aunt Balo will be lovingly missed by nieces Vera (Pat) Tranquada, Maureen (John) Teixeira and nephew Hilary (Nazli) Fernandes plus many great-nieces and nephews in Canada. She is pre-deceased by niece Glorida Pereira. She will also be sadly missed by many wonderful, longtime friends. Balo was born in Georgetown, British Guiana (now Guyana) and immigrated to New York City in 1946. She dedicated her life as a legal secretary from 1946 to 1978 when she retired as a secretary to a Supreme Court Judge of New York State. Balo & Laurie moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1982 where she volunteered for many years in the gift shop of the Ashford Memorial Hospital. In 1990, they moved back to the United States to Orlando, Florida where she served as secretary treasurer of their local AARP Chapter for many years. She also was a volunteer at Leu Gardens for many years. After cremation a memorial service will be held at Dobbs Funeral Home, 430 North Kirkman Road, Orlando 32811 on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:00 o’clock. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
