Lucy Weisenberger Newton

Lucy W. Newton passed away on October 6, 2022.  She was born March 20, 1929 in the Panama Canal Zone.  She grew up in Fort Benning Georgia, met her husband Walter C. Newton (Newt 1930 - 2005) in Bradenton Florida.  They were married in Presque Isle, Maine in 1953 and lived in 20 different homes in their first 19 years of marriage, including multiple tours in Japan.  Throughout her marriage Lucy was a school teacher.  She taught 4th and 5th grade for roughly 20 years in the North Syracuse Central School District in Cicero, NY where she also generated curriculum for the district.  After retirement, they settled in Punta Gorda, Florida where Lucy served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in multiple callings including Relief Society President.  She also served a mission with her husband, Newt, in Arcadia, Florida.  For many years, Lucy was a temple worker in the Orlando Florida Temple and would travel from Punta Gorda to Orlando each Thursday to serve.  She was also a member of the Isles Yacht Club, the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association, and the Noyac Civic Association in New York.  Though an accomplished educator and active volunteer, Lucy’s priorities were her husband and her children Bob (Nannette), Sherry (Lee) & Hal (Theresa), as well as, her grandchildren Amanda, Brittney, Hunter, Trevor, Dolan, Amy, Bobby, & Sarah, and her great grandchildren Oliver, Gabriel, & Benjamin.  She was devoted to her husband of nearly 52 years and a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  To her grandchildren she will always be known as Duckie!

The family will be receiving friends at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 22, 2022 followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 3001 S. Apopka Vineland Road in Orlando, FL .
